Understand How The Early American Idol Auditions Work
You need to know exactly what the show is really about before you get there to audition. There is no other way to explain it, you need to do your homework if you're going to make it past the very first auditions.
Doing your homework isn't just practicing your song, it's really knowing what to wear, what to say to the judges, how to package yourself, how to pick your song, etc, etc..., basically how to ensure that you do everything the right way. There's a lot more to these initial auditions than just singing. Understand what the American Idol judges look for and also what's going to get you cut.
